We are thrilled to share a monumental milestone in our 25-year legacy of healing ! As announced during our 3rd Annual Walk-A-Thon, the West African Health Foundation (WAHF) Eye Institute in Juaben, Ashanti Region, Ghana, has officially reached 90% overall project completion.
Our latest technical report, dated June 16, 2026, details the incredible progress made on-site and outlines the exact roadmap to cross the finish line. Thanks to your unwavering support and generosity, structural, civil, and interior works are substantially complete. The facility is firmly on track to become a premier ophthalmic care and surgical center serving the region.
Where We Stand Today
- Civil & Structural Works: Site preparation, foundations, roofing, and the external envelope are 100% complete.
- Internal Finishes: Wall partitioning, floor tiling, ceiling installation, and internal painting are sitting at a near-finished 95%.
- External Works: Parking, paving, security fencing, and signage are 80% complete.
The Final Phase: Immediate Next Steps
The project has officially entered its active final phase, focusing heavily on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) finishing works:
- Final Plumbing Installations (Currently 10%): Putting in clinical scrub sinks, washbasins, and clinical-grade sterilization units/autoclaves, alongside commissioning solar-assisted hot water and medical gas systems (O2, N2O, vacuum) in the operating theatres.
- Final Electrical Installations (Currently 10%): Fitting specialized LED luminaires, examination-grade task lighting in eye lanes, and surgical-quality shadowless operating theatre lights. We are also finalizing UPS-protected circuits for medical gear and testing our already-installed standby generator, solar PV array, and battery storage systems.
- State-of-the-Art Ophthalmic Equipment: Once the plumbing and electrical networks are signed off, we will trigger the immediate procurement of a world-class equipment suite. This includes everything from Slit-Lamp Biomicroscopes and Digital Fundus Cameras to advanced Phacoemulsification Systems for cataract surgeries and Vitreoretinal surgical setups.
Turning “Steps” into Reality
As our team highlighted at the Walk-A-Thon, every single brick laid and every fixture installed has a human face behind it. This institute will allow children to clearly see the blackboard in their classrooms, give farmers the visual independence to work and feed their families, and grant grandparents the joy of seeing the faces of their grandchildren.
The tasks remaining are well-defined and highly manageable. We are just 10% away from making sustainable, world-class eye care a permanent reality for the people of Juaben and the broader Ashanti Region.
