We are thrilled to share with you our ambitious initiative to establish a Specialist Eye Institute in Juaben, near Kumasi, Ghana. Founded by dedicated Ghanaian physicians and other professionals, the West African Health Foundation, our not-for-profit organization is committed to bringing cutting-edge ophthalmic and optometric care to the heart of West Africa.
Imagine a regional center of excellence, where every patient receives the highest quality eye care, regardless of their background or financial means. With only 95 ophthalmologists serving a population of over 30 million in Ghana, the need for specialized eye care is crucial.
The statistics speak volumes. Over 330,000 people in Ghana suffer from total blindness and severe vision loss (Ghana Health Service 10/2022) caused by preventable and treatable conditions such as cataract and uncorrected refractive error. But we’re not just focusing on the challenges; we’re building solutions.
Our vision extends beyond borders. While our immediate focus is on Kumasi and the Ashanti region, we aim to become the premier choice for eye care across Ghana and even Sub-Saharan Africa, potentially impacting the lives of 250 million people.
What sets us apart? It’s not just our state-of-the-art facility or our robust revenue model. It’s our commitment to community, rooted in the cultural and social fabric of Ghana. With your support, we will build a team of compassionate professionals who understand the unique needs of our people.
But we can’t do it alone. As we embark on this journey, we invite you to join us in making a difference. Your generosity can help us bring light to those living in darkness, restoring sight and hope one patient at a time.
Together, let’s create a brighter future through vision. Join us in this noble cause, and let’s make history together. Donate today and be a part of something truly extraordinary.
